Water management gels can be a life saver for new plants.

Add gels to your potting soil mixes or biological fertilizers

Horta-Sorb® water management gel polymers are substances that absorb hundreds of times their weight in water.  The water absorbed is nearly all available to the plants.  We have 40 years of experience with super absorbents  In agriculture and horticulture their use results in managing watering in the root zone of the plants to significantly reduce watering maintenance and providing for a more constant supply of water to the roots.

Horta-Sorb® polymers have been used in many areas in horticulture and agriculture for nearly four decades.  Initially accepted as a bare root dip in forestry their use quickly spread to landscape, greenhouse, nursery, and numerous agricultural markets.  Horta-Sorb® use ranges from bare root gels to hydro-mulching, transplant amendments,  potting soil “crystals”, and “ice packs” for cut flowers and fresh fish shipments.

Horta-Sorb® super-absorbents are the highest quality gel available today and are presented in three particle sizes based on intended use:

Horta-Sorb® LG (2.0mm to 4.0mm) – Use includes larger container media amendment, landscape plantings, and numerous applications were aqueous stabilization is desired.  Absorbs about 300 times its weight in water over a period of 2-3 hours.  Resulting gel resemble “nuggets” of water that look like glass chips about the size of a marble. Some applications are in floral arrangements, imitation “ice” applications, and to replace meat in engineering trials of food processing equipment.
Horta-Sorb® MD (1.0mm to 2mm) – Use includes container smaller media amendment, flower bed amendment, turf, and a host of other uses.  Absorbs about 300 times its weight in water over a period of 20-45 minutes.  Resulting gel resemble “nuggets” of water that look like glass chips about the size of a a garden pea.  Used in body coolers, headbands and bandana, water separator for fuel lines and storage tanks applications.
Horta-Sorb® SM (0.3mm to 0.8mm) – Exclusively used as a treatment for Bare Root plants of all types, tiny container media amendment, hydromulching and dozens of thickening agent applications for aqueous solutions.  Absorbs about 300 times its weight in water over a period of a few seconds to a couple of minutes.  Resulting gel solidifies water to consistency from loose apple sauce to hard solid state.  Typical applications are waste solidification, as a lubricant for cable pulling, to absorb water “leaking” from waste being transported to landfills, gelling agent for animal scents for trappers, as an additive to kitty litter, and the list goes on, and on.

There are also hundreds of NON-AG applications where gels are successfully used.
